Waffle Fry Dinner Nachos

January 8, 2013 · by Mega ·

Okay, so this didn’t photograph well, I get it. But I have to tell you this is a GREAT recipe and I really think your family is going to love it!

I have adapted this dish for the way my family enjoys it, and now you can do the same. No I didn’t forget to put cheese on part of it, my husband has lactose issues, the poor guy. So the section without cheese is for him. 🙂

Here are your ingredients. First things first, all of these ingredients are optional depending on what you like. On a side note, I didn’t use the lettuce, but I did use one bag of shredded Mexican cheese, any brand will do.

I didn’t take many pictures here because the trick to making this dish really good are the layers.

Food for thought, serving this dish on a cookie sheet right at the table is a lot of fun!!

However, please be careful, the hot cookie sheet/pan can be too much temptation for some little fingers.

Use your best judgement when it comes to serving. 🙂

Let’s go through the process shall we?

Waffle Fry Dinner Nachos

Ingredients

1 package (22 ounces) frozen waffle fries

1 pound lean ground beef

1 pack taco seasoning mix (apx. 1.25 oz.)

5 bacon strips, cooked and crumbled

3 green onions, sliced

1 small can sliced ripe olives, drained

1 medium tomatoe, seeded and chopped

2/3 cup salsa

2 cuups shredded cheese, your favorite

Sour cream

Directions

Bake the fries according to package instructions. Cook bacon to desired crispness. I like to bake my bacon in the oven at 400 degress F for about 12-15 minutes. In a 10-in. ovenproof skillet brown the ground beef until no longer pink, follow instructions package of taco seasoning, just like preparing for tacos.

There are two ways I like to serve this dish.

Skillet Method – Remove cooked seasoned ground beef from skillet. Set aside. Place half of the waffle fries in the skillet, then half of the seasoned ground beef. Top with half the bacon, half the onions, half the olives, half of the tomatoes, half the salsa and finally half of the cheese.

Repeat layers. Return skillet to the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Serve with sour cream. Yield: 6-8 servings.

Cookie sheet Method – Remove cooked seasoned ground beef from skillet. Set aside. Place half of the waffle fries on a cookie sheet lined with aluminum foil, then half of the seasoned ground beef. Top with half the bacon, half the onions, half the olives, half of the tomatoes, half the salsa and finally half of the cheese.

Repeat layers. Return cookie sheet to the oven for 5 minutes or until the cheese is melted. Serve with sour cream. Yield: 6-8 servings.
